About

Niamh Barry

The story is about 'the line' and the journey it takes from its inception in the early sketches, through to the finished piece.

It begins with brisk hand drawn sketches, where the line first comes to life. From there, it is shaped into bronze maquettes to give it its early dimensional appeal and its expression.

It is then worked through, drawing on traditional techniques but using state of the art technology. The fundamentals of engineering are challenged to create tension and energy in the form of the line. The guiding principles are that of constraint, friction and purity.

The finished piece is a visual portrayal of that journey, its emotion, its struggle and its completion.
